IN THE ABSENCE OF FLESH

I found myself drawn to Anna’s room and the couch beneath the window.

 

Staring at this analytical tool I was arrested by the residual presence of the children lain across it, the subtle folds of the blanket seemed to echo the clothing of their bodies.

For me, the veil becomes skin and contains within its folds an anatomy of astonishment.

 

It does not hide truth but rather reveals mystery, a not knowing that is more urgent. To see things naked sometimes leaves us too sure, and this confidence is a fallacy.

 

To cover something denies us the immediate security of the familiar, with drapery we create living topographies which refuse to be mapped.
